Shilpmanjari
An ode to Rani Jyotsna Mishra of Ayodhya
Darbar Collection
The word Darbar evokes a certain grandeur, a place of decorum and elegance, a place where everyone was obliged to be at their very best. No material was too rich, no technique too intricate, no piece too elaborate to be carried. This is a theme that is common throughout the world – Indian kings and queens were decked up magnificently in silk and muslins, the European nobility were gleaming and glittering in capes and coats. Velvet and satin finds a favour with regalia all over the globe. Here is our interpretation of the Darbar clothing – rich, classy, sophisticated pieces hand made with only the best of material, craft and sensibilities , adorned with precious and semi-precious stones.
Don one of these and feel the splendour of days gone by…

Shubhrajyotsna
Rani Jyotsna Mishra was a devoted artist. She painted, embroidered, sang – did everything that can make this world a more beautiful place all the while being a pillar for her family. Being a matriarch of a huge extended family was challenging yet she did it with dignity and grace. In the hustle-bustle of days, there was always time stolen for creativity, to sit down and craft things with one’s own hands.
It was she, who inculcated an appreciation for design and an aptitude for the skill of handicrafts in me. I owe all of my creativity to my Amma..I was very young , practically a child when Amma taught me embroidery and sewing. But the education went further than that – nothing could ever be kept haywire in her room, every thing had a place and away to be, Victorian table covers and setting arrangements were things that I was responsible for tending to.It was a lesson in aesthetics, a discipline in orderliness. It was the sage, profound truth that beauty must be created and sustained – even in ordinary, everyday circumstances.
Shilpmanajri was the natural culmination of it all – seeds now in full bloom , me returning to my roots, an ode to Amma.
We exist because the artist in her did.
